Shadow of the leader By Adrian Harvey In 2016 we analysed more than 20 million individual interventions conducted by Clever Nelly across a large section of clients and industry sectors, and what did we find? That team leaders who lead by example or ‘walk the talk’ so to speak, have the teams with the highest levels of performance. This unique piece of research proves that the concept of ‘Shadow of the Leader’ is far more than a theoretical management model, but is, in fact, very real and alive and kicking in your business. The impact of which, however, can be.
By Adrian Harvey Are you a parent? Do you want to help your kids get better GCSE grades under the new fact and formula heavy curriculum? Would Artificial Intelligence (AI) help? For those of you who already know, Clever Nelly guarantees employees learn and retain the facts, processes and procedures they need to excel in their job role. What if we designed a version of Nelly specifically for GCSE students, one in which Nelly used her AI to ascertain what the student knows and doesn’t know, broken down by subject, and then set about filling in the gaps? What if this.
I probably don’t spend enough time ‘giving back’ and my excuse for that is that I am too busy building this business and dividing my time between Elephants don’t forget and my family. Ask my wife and she would tell you “I’m never off my bluddi phone or email, even at the weekends!” but, in truth, I think I have achieved a degree of equilibrium that allows me to make some choices about how I divide my time. After 20 years of corporate life, I view talking my kids to school or collecting them as a ‘luxury’. I enjoy it.
By Adrian Harvey I often wonder that despite all the wonderful benefits the Internet brings if we have lost something? I am not a hugely political person. I vote, I moan about politicians on all sides and I get on with it. But recently, I cannot help but view some of the candidates (all parties) with complete amazement. Now when I say amazement I do not mean in a positive way. Some of the comments and statements beggars belief. These people are expecting to be elected to manage the 5th largest economy in the world and some of them it.
By Adrian Harvey Some people just can’t handle it and if you know you are one of those people you should never start your own business! Why? Because running your own business is like taking two steps forward to get kicked in the nuts and fall 5 steps back to leap forward 7 steps and step back 1. It is basically a roller coaster ride of wins and defeats. Some might say the word defeat is too strong but I am a super competitive person and I just hate losing. Every setback we have is like a defeat – some.
Talking to the Telegraph about a potential plan that would allow carer’s access to a year off unpaid, CEO Adrian Harvey thinks it’s nothing a company focussed on its employees couldn’t weather. If you know anything about Elephants don’t forget, then you’ve probably been introduced to Account Director Kirsty. As one of the herd, Kirsty enjoys to work from home – except for when it’s sunny, as she finds working outside problematic with the glare from the sun on her computer screen. But following on from a conversation with Adrian this morning, and his genius recommendation, she is now working outside like the rest of us. Amazing! Enjoy the sunshine Kirsty!
Today is national work from home day. Obviously not every organisation is cut out to have staff working from home, but where they can, we believe they can reap amazing benefits. At Elephants don’t forget, all our UK based staff work from home. Whenever we recruit we always grill new potential employees on how they will cope, especially if they have worked in an office previously. My conclusion, which some may not want to read, is that some people simply aren’t cut out for it! We pursue a high contact policy, especially in the first 90 days. We encourage other.
