A “Pop-up Box” can be used when and explanation to the answer of a question is required
It is inappropriate to provide an explanation each, and every, time a user answers a question, even if you just do so every time the user answers incorrectly. E.g. the answer to 7+3 is 10 and regardless of whether I answer incorrectly, no explanation is required. It is simply competence that must be learned and developed.
Over use of the provision of “explanations” is detrimental to engagement and ultimately makes the user “blind” to each and every explanation. Typically, we would suggest an initial ration not greater than 1:10 questions to have an explanation.
The most effective method of providing explanations is via a url embedded in the Pop-up Box. This means we can drive the user to any location, ideally the original training content. It also has the benefit that we can track the percentage rate of each individual’s level of curiosity and report on this.
Curious employees tend to be top performers – but never tell employees this or some will “game” the system.
